Amazon affiliate links on social media: which platforms Amazon accepts, and the rules for each post.

Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, X and Twitch are all on Amazon’s list. Personal profiles and Pinterest are not. Here is what Amazon checks, how to disclose, and the rules that close accounts.

The short version

  • Social accounts can be Sites. Amazon’s agreement counts social media content as a Site, the same as a website.
  • Amazon’s accepted list: Facebook (pages and open groups, not personal profiles), Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Twitch.
  • List the exact account URL in your Associates account, and keep it public with a real following. Amazon says 500 in most cases.
  • Disclose on every post (“#ad”, “(paid link)” or “#CommissionsEarned”), and put Amazon’s required sentence on the account.

Plenty of affiliates make most of their Amazon money without a website at all. Amazon allows it, but on conditions that are easy to miss because they live on three different Amazon pages: the Operating Agreement, the Program Policies, and the Application Review help page. This page puts them together, platform by platform.

Which platforms Amazon accepts

Amazon’s Application Review Process page says it currently accepts these social networks, and that you must list each page’s exact URL, not just the network’s address:

Platform On Amazon’s list? Worth knowing
Facebook Yes: fan pages and open groups Personal profiles are excluded. Facebook’s Branded Content tool is the example Amazon gives for disclosure.
Instagram Yes Posts and follower count must be visible to non-followers.
TikTok Yes Same rules: public account, established following.
YouTube Yes Put the disclosure where viewers see it with the link, not only in a channel tab.
Twitter (now X) Yes Listed by Amazon as “Twitter”.
Twitch Yes Listed by Amazon as “Twitch.tv”.
Pinterest Not on Amazon’s list Needs a different approach. See below.

Two more conditions come from the same page. The account must be established, with a substantial number of organic followers, which Amazon says is at least 500 in most cases. And it must be public: no closed groups, and no accounts where posts or follower counts are hidden from people who do not follow you.

Pinterest is the platform people expect to see and do not. It is a natural fit for product content, but it is not on Amazon’s accepted list. We cover the safer route in Amazon affiliate links on Pinterest, published alongside this page.

Add every account to your Associates account

Amazon reviews your account against the Sites you declared, and asks you to keep that list current “so that we are reviewing the right traffic sources”. Its policies also say you must not put links with your tag on a site that is not your Site. In practice:

  • Add the exact profile URL of each account you post links from to the Site list in your Associates account.
  • Give each platform its own tracking ID. Then your reports show which channel actually sells. Both SiteStripe and the Amazon app let you pick the tracking ID as you create the link.
  • Keep “Amazon” out of your handle. The policies ban Amazon trademarks, and misspellings of them, in usernames and group names on social networks.
ONE COMPLIANT POST, FOUR PARTS 1. Declared account Exact profile URL listed in Associates Central 2. Channel tracking ID e.g. yourstore-ig-20, picked when you copy the link 3. Label on the post “#ad”, “(paid link)” or “#CommissionsEarned”, by the link 4. Sentence on the account “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”
Parts 3 and 4 come from Amazon’s help page on identifying yourself as an Associate on social media.

How to disclose on a social post

Amazon’s help page on social media disclosure asks for two separate things, and people often do only one:

  1. A label on the link itself. It must be clear and conspicuous. Amazon’s own examples are “(paid link)”, “#ad” and “#CommissionsEarned”. Put it next to the link or at the start of the caption, not after a wall of hashtags.
  2. The Associate sentence on the account. “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” For social media, Amazon says this must be associated with your account. The bio or the channel’s about section is the usual place.

Amazon adds two practical points. Use the platform’s own tools where they exist; it names Facebook’s Branded Content tool. And disclose in the same medium as the recommendation, so a spoken recommendation in a video needs a spoken disclosure, not only text under it. The exact wording and where it goes on a website are in the disclosure guide.

The rules that close social accounts

  • DMs only to people who asked. Amazon allows links in direct messages from your social Sites only when the person opted in. Mass-messaging followers a link is the classic breach.
  • No disguised links. A shortener that hides that the link goes to Amazon breaks the policies.
  • Do not boost posts that link to Amazon. Since 14 April 2026, Amazon excludes sales from customers referred through any paid or boosted advertisement linking to Amazon, with limited exceptions. The policies also forbid using Amazon’s product images and other Program Content in advertising outside your Site.
  • No groups you do not run. Dropping your link in someone else’s group or comment thread puts it on a site that is not your Site.
  • Nothing in exchange for clicks. No giveaways, rewards or “support me by buying through my link” requests. Amazon lists that last one by name as not allowed.

Making the link on your phone

Most social posting happens on a phone, and Amazon has a method for that. In the Amazon shopping app, logged in with your Associates account, open the product, tap Share, choose the platform’s tracking ID, and tap Copy Associates Link. The full walk-through, with the categories where it does not work, is in how to create an Amazon affiliate link.

If you are a creator with a following, Amazon also runs the Influencer Program, which adds a storefront page on Amazon itself. Influencer Program vs Associates explains which suits you. And if you are still in your first 180 days, remember the reviewer checks every Site you listed: three sales in 180 days covers what they look for.

Common questions

Can I post Amazon affiliate links on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook?

Yes, if the account is one of the Sites in your Associates account. Amazon’s Operating Agreement counts social media content as a Site, and its application review accepts Facebook pages and open groups, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Twitch.

Can I use my personal Facebook profile?

Not as a Site you apply with. Amazon’s review page accepts Facebook open groups and fan pages but excludes personal pages.

How many followers do I need for Amazon Associates?

Amazon does not set a hard number. Its review page asks for an established page with a substantial number of organic followers, and says that in most cases that means at least 500.

How do I disclose an Amazon affiliate link on social media?

Put a clear label next to the link, such as “(paid link)”, “#ad” or “#CommissionsEarned”, where people will see it without hunting. Also associate the sentence “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases” with the account, for example in the bio.

Can I send Amazon affiliate links in Instagram or Facebook DMs?

Only to people who opted in to hear from you. Amazon’s policies allow Special Links in emails, SMS and direct messages from your social media Sites when the communication is solicited.

Can I put “Amazon” in my social media username?

No. Amazon’s policies forbid any Amazon trademark, or a misspelling of one, in a username, group name or other identifier on a social networking site.
